Build A Shelving System

Build A Shelving System

Whether you are growing a business or starting a new one, E-Z-Rect Shelving is the solution.  Our versatile stationary, mobile, high rise, and multi-level systems can transform your retail, warehouse, manufacturing, or distribution facility. The following guide will help you get started designing a simple to moderately complex shelving solution.

Step 1: Measure Your Space

Consider and determine the amount of storage space you have, and measure the area.

Step 2: Identify Products To Be Stored

Identify the products you are looking to store and how they will be accessed. This includes determining their size, weights, quantities, and the access frequency. For example, are you storing small items that need to be accessible multiple times per day, or are you storing records or documents that will rarely be accessed. These considerations will help you determine how you want to store your items, as well as the shelving height and width.

Step 3: Determine Shelving Type

Determine the type of shelving that will best store the items you wish to store, and your required load capacity. If you are storing lighter items, choose E-Z-Rect Trim-line shelving. If you require heavier duty shelving, choose E-Z-Rect Type 1 shelving. If you have minimal space, consider a mobile system. If you are creating a warehouse storage solution, consider a multi-level system built with Type 1 shelving as an excellent alternative to a pallet or warehouse racking system.

Step 4: Determine Number of Shelving Bays

Once you know how many items you need to store, determine the number of shelving bays that will fulfil your storage needs. Determine the height and number of shelf levels you require for each shelving bay. Choose a deeper shelf width for large items and narrower ones for smaller things. Determine the amount of space you require between shelving bays; consider any machinery that must move in between shelving bays so you have sufficient space for its use within your storage plan. Plan to allow an overhang of one-sixth of the shelf length.

Step 5: Determine Layout & Arrangement

Once you know your storage area, what you are storing, the number of shelving bays you require and the height, you are ready to create your layout. Consider all the above factors, including access frequency and any machinery you will be using between shelving bays. If you are unsure of the best layout for your space or facility, contact the E-Z-Rect design team, who can help configure your shelving system.

Step 6:  Determine Accessories or Additional Items

E-Z-Rect shelving can be equipped with many accessories including: end panels, multiple surface materials, storage boxes, and shelf dividers. If you require these items, determine the quantity. Consider the use of EZR lockers or workstations within your facility.

Trim-line shelving typically takes one minute per piece of shelving to install. The simplicity of design of E-Z-Rect Shelving allows you to re-organize your storage space quickly.
